People who Inspire me: Josh Rossi

There are certain photographers who inspire me, and the ones who inspire me are ones who are not nationally famous.. but their work is much better than those who are. Recently I discovered a photographer currently living in Utah named Josh Rossi. Immediately when I saw this guys work, I thought to myself, Dave Hill and Joel Grimes ain’t got SHIT on this guy! literally. No disrespect to Joel Grimes, his work is awesome and inspires me as well, but you can tell how its done, easily. I look at Josh Rossi’s work and I cant figure it out! I have the slightest clue how he does it and honestly, I don’t want to know. If you don’t believe how awesome this guy’s composite work is…. check this out!…

See?! I told you! One word…..AMAZING! Me and Josh speak frequently and he is a very friendly guy. Not Stuck up or anything. Now that I think of it, I briefly spoke with Dave Hill as well and he was friendly… But some people think they are too high to speak to “lower people”. Small rant whatever. Back on Topic, me and Josh Rossi did a small interview, and his answers were exactly what I’ve thought all along. I asked Josh for very little detail in the equipment he uses and his vision on his work. This is his response…

Josh Rossi: “I use photogenic lights plus canon speed lights when needed. Canon 5d mark 2. My vision on my photography is to create stories from every piece that I do. I started off in video production and have always been interested in connecting people emotionally to my work. I want to create not just a picture but something that looks like its out of a movie or just something so surreal that people dont know how its done. More than anything if the viewer feels a sense of adventure, excitement and any other good feeling that I try to portray I have succeeded. I was always adventurous as a kid and love it when I can bring out that excitement in my images.”

Josh says he wants his viewers to feel a sense of adventure and adventure, something out of a movie, something so surreal that you cant figure out how its done. Josh does this 100%. Talk about meeting your goals. I would love to create action packed composites like Josh, and if i keep at it, I’m sure I will, but in my own way. Even if he gave me tips, like anything else, I would use it to my knowledge to come up with my own creation. Thanks Josh for the inspiration! The Art Behind The Head Shot

If you are a fan of my work, (as if i have any =\…) You will noticed that I tend to do a lot of Head Shots. Its one of my strong areas of photography actually. Studying anything from the Dodge & Burn Technique on skin… to more simple ways such as Portraiture. But obviously its a lot more involved into it just than photoshop. This video I’m going to post will help both photographers & models. Does the name Peter Hurley ring a bell to anyone? If no & you are a photographer, you have to get out more. Peter Hurley is an expert photographer on head shots. Many companies and inspiring artists, actors, and actresses contact this guy when they want the perfect profile shot. He gives some amazing tips in this short video as well as in his DVD. The online clip is about 17 minutes long.. but it leaves you wanting more knowledge from him. How good is he? Well he has a Studio in New York, LA, and Dallas. Regardless on how you may look at his work…you have to admit he’s a pretty successful photographer. I would love to get to his level in the industry. Artist TeeJ is still hard at work!

Recently Did a new session with Artist TeeJ. I wanted to share one of my favorite tracks from him as well as some recent shots we produced.

This track here is an excellent “Fall for your Type” story. Notice i said story… not just a bunch of punch lines all over the place. Sometimes its good to hear an actual story within the lyrics. Singer Yung Vokalz of YVPG is on the move!

If you have been following my blog for some years, you may be familiar with this guys funny face. Well here he is again! As a good friend of his, I’m really proud of the moves he has been making as of lately. Touring across several states, and now spending more time in the studio. The guy has an amazing voice in person, so obviously the studio voice comes to no surprise to most. Its unique, different, and that’s what the industry typically looks for now and days other than image and acting skills, which he has both. Recently I was fortunate enough to get a listen on his single track, that he recorded with several members in the band. The Bass line played by Kmarbeast(Kevin) was grooving like no other. Listening to the amazing coordination of bar chords played by the lead guitar player we call “Lil Man” was spot on. When the track goes up, I will be sure to promote it here. Enough of that, on to the recent shots. More to come with select other members in the band soon!

Self Portrait! Composite Fun!

I’ve always had the idea of me falling out of a sky, in a picture that is =\ Tonight I finally got around to making that happen. I think it came out fairly nice, but I’m honest with myself often, it could be better, but what couldn’t be better in life? There is always room for improvement. But overall, im satisfied with the photo. It makes me laugh every time i look at it LOL.

Must be nice to have a photographer for a friend…

This is my buddy Ryan. Been knowing him for about 6 or 7 years. Ryan has been there with me since day one with doing photography, Im talking back when the Nikon D50 was the camera to get! Looking at the first pics I took of him at his house to this composite image now….. makes me extremely proud and confident to say… I’ve come a Hell of a LONG WAY!

Nick Paul contacted me, told me my work was DOPE! He was no slouch either. When he said he needed an album cover, he had no problem spending Big. That means I had to deliver BIG results. I really admire his energy, always working towards success, always in the studio recording, always in front of the camera making videos which I will post at bottom. It was a very fun project to work with both him and his buddy OlTyma, OlTyma is the mastermind behind the beats for Nick Paul, and I must say, its not your usual rookie production. So many tracks I like from OlTyma musically and Nick Paul Lyrically. Nick Paul definitely has to image to be a star, but you dont become a star over night! Keep at it Nick Paul!

Im all the way 13 minutes in with a couple other shots, but its a very nice documentary. You really get to see WHO Nick Paul really is and the talent and intelligence in him. This is Sherri B. a local R&B singer. Sherri has been working on her career and album for quite some time. I have heard a couple tracks put together by American Idol winner Ruben Studdard. Sheri and Ruben have a great relationship and she has been on tours with him as a background singer. I’m sure she’s going to blow up big one day with her unique tenor like voice. I really enjoyed shooting with her as she is full of energy and giggles. Possibly for her cd cover!
